Local Sticker Pack

The Project Concept

A few years ago I was planning a video about living in a smaller radius around your home. The idea was to set different modes of transportation, and define a 15 minute travel window from your front door. Faster modes of transportation would have larger radiuses, and very different travel experiences. This is very much in the anti-car, urbanist line of thinking. I was working on this aware of the concept of 15 Minute Cities, but before they were ridiculously polarized with conspiracies.

In the video, I was going to time myself walking, biking, and driving for 15 minutes, and set that distance as a radius to fill as full as I could with waypoints. The idea was to put more focus on enjoying your locality, and how it might make you advocate more strongly for neighborhood improvements and amenities. At the time I lived in San Pedro, California, with a really amazing array of places in each of those rings.

I just ultimately didn’t prioritize making the video, and now I’m gearing up to move to someplace not quite as walkable. But the project did inspire some good design.

This was the thumbnail I had planned for the video.

The Sticker Pack

As part of this project, I designed a sticker pack influenced by the concepts in the video. Even with the video scrapped, I think the designs are worth sharing.

These rings represents the three travel radiuses from the project, each a different form of transportation.
Bikes are a great way to experience your neighborhood.
My home state of California.
This is a zip code placeholder that you could fill in.
A flag to plant.
The types of transportation you might take for your radius.

The Print

I ordered a test print from Printful. I wasn’t thrilled with the quality of the stickers, and I wouldn't release them without the film project as explanation. But it was a fun hypothetical project and I'd love to revisit the concept. These days I would probably go a little more colorful, but that simple pallet does certainly make it look nice and cohesive.

My test print, a little mangled from years in a drawer.
